At Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Alamos, N.M. in the 1980's and 1990's, I knew Helen when we were both active in a particular prayer group plus in the commissioned corps of Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers serving at Mass on The Hill or in White Rock or bringing Communion to the hospitalized and shut-ins -- when Fr. "Charlie" Brown was Pastor. After my wife Bev and I left N.M. in 2000 to return to Vermont where we still live, Helen and I corresponded for a number of years. She was a spiritual asset to the Parish through the various ministries she served in, but also helped people face the truth about themselves in apposition to the truth taught by the Magisterium. In the end what matters is how merciful each one of us will allow Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, the Resurrection, and the Life -- all as the forgiving face of the Father -- to be to each one of us. So, no matter how bumpy or rough the road is in the Church Militant for a believer such as myself, it is all worth it if one by grace attains to the prize of Heaven itself. In some mysterious way she has helped me on my own journey towards that desired end, and right reason indicates that she must have helped others in that way, too. So, to you, Helena and Margaret, and all the rest of her family, these thoughts are offered in case you can find some solace in them for your loss. In Christ's name.
