Wilfred Ricardo Varela Jr

Wilfred “Will” R. Varela Jr., 43, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 12, 2022, in Pecos.  Will’s passing occurred exactly 13 months after the loss of his beloved mother, Cecilia M. Varela.

He was born on March 11, 1979, to Wilfred and Cecilia Varela.

Will had a generous heart of gold – never hesitant to help anyone. Will went without if there was someone who needed it more than him.

During his childhood years, he always spoke about being in a band, and for many years he played drums for several bands and wrote some of his own music. Will lived his life to the beat of his own drum – he was authentically himself and not what others wanted him to be even during his last hours of life.

Will was a dad, a son, a brother, a cousin, a bandmate, and a friend. He is greatly missed.

Will was predeceased by his mother, Cecilia; brother James; grandparents, Ricardo and Celia Varela, and Fermin and Mercy Valencia; several uncles, aunts, and friends.

Will is survived by his children, James Dean Romero-Varela, and Allysha Diana Romero-Varela; father, Wilfred Varela Sr.; sister, Brenda Archuleta and husband Jamie; nephews, Elijah Varela, Jeremiah Varela, and Andres Archuleta; niece, Maria Archuleta, great-nephew, Brandon; great-niece, Jordynn; many uncles, aunts, cousins, godchildren, and friends.

He left us many great memories and music that will lift our souls in our time of grief. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
