Rosina Apodaca Ortiz

July 29, 1931 – June 22, 2021

Rosina Apodaca Ortiz passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021, just weeks before her 90th birthday.

Rosina was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard (Dicky) Ortiz, son Martin Ortiz, mother and stepfather Rita and Esequiel Gallegos, brother Henry Gallegos and most recently, her oldest son, Lawrence Ortiz passed away on July 16, 2021.

She is survived by her son Marc Ortiz, daughter Lisa Gutierrez, daughter-in-law Carol Ortiz, grandchildren Jerome Gutierrez (Beth), Rita Ortiz (Sean) and Kiera Ortiz, great-grandchildren Erik, Connor and Oliver, sisters-in-law Betty Rivera and Bobbi Gallegos.  Also many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially her best friend since childhood, Helen Lucero Salas.

Rosina worked at the drive-in and Lensic theaters as a young lady. She went on to work at Sears in downtown Santa Fe, Kaune’s Grocery on Washington Avenue as a bookkeeper before going to the Santa Fe Public Schools as a secretary at Wood Gormley Elementary. Eventually she moved over to the Administrative Office of the Cafeteria Dept from where she retired. She and our dad were very involved with the Elks BPOE #460 Lodge with their steak fry's and Friday night dances.  She volunteered weekly at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi right up until the pandemic.  She enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with her family.

A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 9:00 am at Berardinelli Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi with interment at 1:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

The family would like to give our sincere thanks to Ambercare Hospice employees Mark, Stephanie and Dalila, Home Instead employee Mary Lucas and most of all, her live-in caregiver, Maria Gutierrez, for the tender, loving care they all provided for our mom.
