Robert Burton “Bob” Lancaster (89) of Rowe, NM passed from this world at his home on September 19, 2023. Bob is survived by his daughters, Lora Lancaster and Christi Drake; a son, Burt Lancaster; his brother, Bill Lancaster; grandchildren, Lane Drake (Kristin), Price Drake (Shannon), Reagan Lancaster, Emma Lancaster, and Will Lancaster; and great granddaughters, Karter Ann Drake and Kenley Lane Drake. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathryn Lancaster; nephews, Mark Lancaster (Lynn), Dan Lancaster (Kathy), Jim Lancaster (Angela); niece, Marilynn Nutt (Herman); and his beloved dog, Sissy. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Lancaster; his brother, Walter Lancaster; and his parents, Harry Lancaster and Gladys Lancaster.
Bob was born in Charleroi, PA on October 28, 1933. Following high school graduation, Bob proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps (August 1953 through August 1956). During his service, Bob had the privilege of traveling the world with Puerto Rico and Japan among his favorite destinations. Bob began a rewarding career with IBM in 1957 from which he retired in 1991. Bob’s career took him to Post, TX; San Jose, CA; Poughkeepsie, NY; Houston, TX; and Santa Fe, NM at which time Bob and Barbara made their home in Rowe, NM. Bob loved the history and landscape of New Mexico, but he especially loved the people of Rowe, Pecos and Ilfeld. Bob was a co-founder of the Ilfeld/Rowe Volunteer Fire Department and was a supporter of the Pecos Schools and of Youth Conservation Corp projects in his community. Bob had a passion for gardening and astronomy and a love for animals, especially dogs.
Bob’s celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Berardinelli Family Funeral Services in Santa Fe with a reception at 10:00 and services at 11:00. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30. Pallbearers will be Lane Drake, Price Drake, Reagan Lancaster, Victor Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, and Raphael D’Amato. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots organization or an animal rescue organization of your choice. Bob’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to his extended family and many friends for their love and support during this time.
