Peter B Quintana

PETER B. QUINTANA, 89, of SANTA FE, passed away November 11, 2021. 

He was born in San Miguel, NM on July 26, 1932, to Secundino and Rebecca Bustamante. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Mariano and Maria Quintana; sisters, Mary and Alice Bustamante; brothers, Benito (Poly), Jose (Rose), and Christian Bustamante. 

Peter is survived by the love of his life, his wife of over 60 years, Lucille Quintana; his son James Quintana; daughter Carmela M. Quintana; and grand-son Dillon Peter Goodwin.  Brother, Robert Bustamante (Tommie); Sister-in-law, Alice Bustamante; and many nieces and nephews.

Peter was a graduate of Santa Fe High School, and he continued his education earning a bachelor’s degree in History from the College of Santa Fe in 1975.

Peter B. Quintana was a Korean Veteran who served honorably for 43 years in the New Mexico Army National Guard.  His service began on August 22, 1949.  He was mobilized for the Korean Conflict in August 1950 where he remained on active duty till May 1952.  Peter rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before being appointed as a Warrant Officer on January 29, 1960. 

Peter B., Chief, or Mr. Q., as many referred to him, served in many capacities throughout his long military career.  His distinguishable service earned him the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation; National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters to name a few.  Peter retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1992 yet continued serving his military community by volunteering in the New Mexico National Guard Officers Association. 

Peter was a man of faith, a devout catholic, and active parishioner at the Cathedral Basilica in Santa Fe.  He believed in giving back to his community and did so in his later years by volunteering to prepare taxes for senior citizens and donating to numerous charities.  Peter was an avid animal lover and always had a dog by his side.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Peter’s memory to the Carmelite Monastery, Santa Fe, NM or American Legion Post 12, Santa Fe, NM.
