Pauline M. Montoya, 85

Pauline Martinez Montoya of Bryans Road, Maryland passed away on March 24, 2017 at MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington D.C. at the age of 85. She was born on November 6, 1931 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to William A. Martinez and Aggie (Sandoval) Martinez.

Pauline was a graduate of Santa Fe High School and worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, NM after graduation. She married Roman M. Montoya on September 26, 1953 in Santa Fe, and then worked for New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM for several years before moving to Maryland and starting a family. Pauline devoted many years to volunteering for the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary, JFK Council #5482 in Accokeek, MD, as well as for Meals on Wheels, and her church, St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Indian Head, MD. She was well-known and loved in the community for her kind and charitable nature, and for her deep faith in God.

Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, William & Aggie Martinez; her husband, Roman M. Montoya; and brothers Daniel and Agustin Martinez.

She is survived by her children: son, Robert Montoya of La Plata, MD; son, William Montoya of Bryans Road, MD; daughter, Dianne (Montoya) Moore and her husband Stephen Moore of Douglasville, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Jake Martinez of Tucson, AZ; sister, Mary Ann Sena of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law Irene Bailey of Modesto, CA; brother-in-law Cecil Montoya of Santa Fe, NM; brother-in-law John A. Montoya and his wife Corine of Santa Fe, NM; and numerous nephews, nieces, and godchildren.

Services will be held Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her name to the American Kidney Fund, the American Heart Association, or to St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Indian Head, MD.
