Patricia "Patty" Gallagher was a North Carolina native. The daughter of Avis and John Gallagher, she was the fourth of five siblings. Patricia moved out west in her early twenties where she received a bachelor of science degree in Geology from the University of Wyoming. She worked as a geologist for both the North Carolina and Wyoming Geological Surveys. Patty later went to work for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality where she got her start in a long and successful career in pollution prevention. In 1996 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she worked as pollution prevention coordinator for the New Mexico Department of Environmental Quality. In 2001 she landed a job with the Los Alamos National Labs. Patty's joy for life was demonstrated every day by her great sense of humor. Patty was known to many as "Cuzzin'" because she was everybody's Cuzzin. Her older bother, Timmy Gallagher, recently preceded her in death. She leaves behind many who loved her dearly, including her husband Gustaaf van Moorsel of Santa Fe, her younger sister, Katie Gallagher, of Los Angeles, her older sister Chris Gallagher Ekstedt of Greensboro, NC and her older brother Mark Gallagher of Ft Collins, Co.. A memorial service will be held in mid-August in Santa Fe, details to be announced. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, persons should donate to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance or Planned Parenthood.
