Michael C. Manning, 74, a life-long resident of Santa Fe, died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 26, after a courageous long battle with multiple ailments, succumbing ultimately to heart failure. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Bernadette Balling-Manning and C.R. (Jack) Manning, and his infant daughter Maureen Bernadette Manning. Mike us survived by his wife Amy, step-daughter Anita Lopez-Cech of Boulder, CO, son Stephen Anthony Manning of Santa Fe, siblings Tom Manning of Santa Fe, Patricia Solberg (husband Ron) of Memphis, Tenn, Cass Waddell of Alabama. Grandchildren Michael Anthony Manning of Santa Fe, Mikella and Jeremiah Zgliczynski of Denver, CO, Brother-in-Law Rudy J. Maestas of Rio Rancho, Sisters-inLaw Lorraine Elliott (Bill) and Lucy Schwank (Jim) of Albuquerque, Helen Whitfill (Jim) of Santa Fe, Pauline Martinez (Anthony) of Espanola, and Eva Abshire (Kenny) of Edgewood; numerous nephews, nieces and a multitude of good friends. Michael was a 12-year graduate of St. Michael's High School, where he was an accomplished athlete in basketball, football and ran track. He graduated in 1961 with honors. He earned his Civil Engineering degree at NM State University. He made a life-long career at the NM State Highway Department, retiring as District Engineer in 2002. Mike coached Santa Fe Babe Ruth baseball for over 25 years, enjoyed watching sports, reading, spending time with grandson Michael, and having daily coffee and lunches with his brother and friends. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Osage Avenue, followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Rosario Cemetery, followed by a reception at St John's Lamy Hall.)
