Tribute

Mary Isabel Romero, 93

Born June 26, 1929 and passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022.

Born in Santa Fe, NM to Antonio and Luisita Quintana. Mary was a native New Mexican and graduated from Santa Fe High.  Shortly after high school she met and married the love of her life Victor Romero Jr. They were married on July 21, 1949. Together, they built a beautiful life. Mary had a passion for health and opened a successful health food store, Vitality Unlimited. She owned and managed the store for 10 years. She also was the best housewife raising her beautiful children and later helping raise her grandchildren and caring for them often.

Mary had many passions. She loved art and was an amazing artist, painting eggs for Las Cascarenas. She was a loyal and committed Catholic, rarely missing Sunday mass. She was a lifetime member of the Altar Society in which she dedicated countless hours to give back to the church.  Her faith ran deep, and we know she is dancing with her husband in heaven.  She was a profound member of the La Sociedad Folklorica, participating in several fashion shows over the years.  Mary, (Nanny) was a huge supporter of St. Michael’s High School, where she supported her grandchildren and great-children always cheering “HORSEMEN! HORSEMEN!”

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents Antonio and Luisita Quintana, parents in law Victor Sr and Annie Romero, her loving husband of 52 years, Victor Romero Jr, her sister Francis Viera, sister Virginia Lujan, brother Tony “Cookie” Quintana, Brother in Laws: Rudy Romero, Gerald Romero, Julian Noedel, and Tony Viera, Sister-in-Law, Beatrice Romero and other nieces and nephews. Mary is survived by her loving children Anna Jorene Sandoval and husband Mike, Reisha Sandwell and partner Aaron, her son Victor Alan Romero, and her dog Onyx.  Brother-in-Law, Edward Lujan, Sister-In-Laws: Sarah Quintana, Lourdes Romero, and Christella Noedel. Special Niece Olinda Garcia. Mary adored her grandchildren Michael (Gabrielle), Dawn (Alan), Nicole (Don), Valerie (Anthony), Kerri (Eric), and Brittany (Matthew). She dearly loved all her great grandchildren: Marcus, Alyssa, Mikayla, Brenyn, Santiago, Marissa, Ayla, Iliana, Lukas, Estevan, Jayce, Avelina, Michael, Jackie, Marcus Anthony, Sierra, and Noah. Family was the most important thing to Mary, she loved and enjoyed spending all her time with them.

The family is forever grateful to Alan for taking such amazing care of his mother for all these years. Special thanks to Edward Lujan for his enduring support.
