Maria Andrea Ortiz

Andrea C. Ortiz, after a lengthy battle with dementia, was called up to our Lord on December 26, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 6, 1941 to Manuel and Gertrude Chavez. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Paul Ortiz, sister Rosita Martinez, mother-in-law Erminia Ortiz, sister-in-law Consuelo Romero, and brother-in-law Manuel Ortiz. Andrea is survived by her husband of 58 years J. Edward Ortiz, children John Ortiz (Jessica) of Las Vegas, NV, Thomas Ortiz of Santa Fe, NM, Pauline Laumbach (Hank) of Rainsville, NM, Martin Ortiz (Jennifer) of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren Mathew Ortiz (Michelle), Ashley Ortiz, Adam Laumbach (Katelina), Alyxandra Ortiz, Santiago Laumbach, and Antonio Ortiz, as well as seven great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; Jessica Rosa, Fernanda Marquez, and Meny Marquez all of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by her sister Katie Chavez of Bernalillo, NM, brothers Flemie Chavez (Diane) of Albuquerque, NM, and Robert Chavez (Marie) of Austin, Texas; sister-in-laws Theresa Salazar of Las Cruces NM, Imelda Rodriguez of Santa Fe, NM, and brother-in-law Terry Ortiz (Angel) of Las Cruces NM; and her best friend Nini Lujan (David) of Rio Rancho, NM.  As well as many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, and friends.

Andrea was a lifelong devoted Catholic and long time parishioner of The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. Andrea  also served the City of Santa Fe through the Parks and Recreation department as a Pool Coordinator for many years before retiring in 1998. She also had a great love and skill for quilting and sewing; creating many special treasures for her family and friends.

Funeral and burial services are pending. The family would like to thank her special caregiver Alberta Pena from Compassus Hospice, as well as her special caregiver Yolanda Casados. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be greatly appreciated.
