Maria Eva Ellenburg

September 9, 1934 ~ March 17, 2023 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

Our beautiful mother and grandmother, Maria Eva Ellenburg (Eva), 88, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Eva was born on September 9, 1934 in Pecos, New Mexico to Guillermo and Luz Roybal. Eva married William Lon Ellenburg (Bill) and lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico until 1961 when they moved to Santa Fe. Bill worked in Los Alamos until he retired and Eva was a homemaker.

If you knew Eva, you knew her husband, children, and family were her priority. Eva cared for many children and some of them kept in touch even after they became adults and parents themselves. Bill and Eva loved to dance and took over the dance floor from time to time. Eva had a green thumb and could name any plant and tell you what to do to help your garden grow. Eva was a member of the Los Alamos Sewing Circle and was a wonderful seamstress. Eva worked as a presiding judge in elections and loved interacting with people in the community. Eva was a member of the Altar Society, Union Protectiva Feminia, and Catholic Daughters at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Later, she was an active member of Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. Eva attended dances at the senior center and was the belle of the ball. She frequently asked bands to play polkas, her favorite dance of all.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Yolanda McCurdy of Albuquerque, Diane Ellenburg of Santa Fe, and Debbie Blea of Albuquerque. Eva is also survived by her grandchildren, Lonnie Morris (Stephanie); Lynette Morris, Corey Ellenburg, Paul Serrano, Tara Serrano, and Francesca Ellenburg, who was Eva's Goddaughter. Great grandchildren are Mya Morris, Madison Morris, Mason Morris, Michael Serrano, James Serrano, Noah Ellenburg, and Isaac Ellenburg. Eva considered Christella Burchfield and Lynette Ortiz to be her daughters as well.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Casa Contenta Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided to Eva since February 2020. We would also like to thank Luna Del Valle Hospice for the care they provided to Eva during the last weeks of her life. We are asking that donations be made to the New Mexico Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
