October 27, 1926 ~ July 24, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years OldShare Tribute:
Maria “Mary” Ella Buckland, 90, long time Los Alamos resident died July 24, 2017 at her home. She was born and lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico for 17 years and came to Los Alamos to work for the U.S. Army Engineers in August, 1945. She met her future husband, Carl W. Buckland, at a dance at Theater #2 and as Carl would say, “That was the end of that story.” They soon fell in love and were married on August 1946. They remained in Los Alamos and Mary Ella enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom raising their four children and doing volunteer work for church, schools, and community. In 1979, after the children left home, she went to work as Administrative Aide to the Los Alamos county sheriff from 1979 to 1980 and again in 1983 until her retirement in 1998.
Mary Ella is preceded in death by her husband Carl William Buckland Jr., whom she often referred to as her “other self”. They enjoyed 62 happy years together. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Carl (Julianne), David (Janet “TJ” Taub), Anne Murphy (Tim), and Nancy (Richard Day), and grandchildren; Amber and Michael Dugger, Kevin Murphy (Virginia “Ginnie” Leigh), and Marika Buckland-Day, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends who were very dear to her. Mary Ella wants to thank her in-home caretakers.
Her life will be celebrated at a Rosary and Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3700 Canyon Rd, Los Alamos, NM. The Rosary is at 7:30pm on August 15th where your tributes will be welcomed.
