Lydia Duran Tsosie passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the age of 93. She was preceeded in death by her husband Carl Tsosie, parents Ramos Duran and Manuelita Vialpando, daughter Judy Dasheno, son-in-law Jerry Gaussoin Sr., sister Rafaelita and her husband Hurbert Yazza, and brother Bernard Duran.
Lydia is survived by her children Anthony Tsosie (Harriet), Connie Tsosie Gaussoin, Pat Tsosie, Clifford Tsosie (Tina), Robert Dale Tsosie (Aurora), Desbah Tsosie-Farden (Charlie), and son-in-law Walter Dasheno; grandchildren Ramos Tsosie (Bonnie), Colonel Jerry Gaussoin Jr (Stephanie), David Gaussoin (Rod), Wayne Nez Gaussoin, Tazbah Gaussoin-Sutter (Carl), Walter J Dasheno (Gabriella), Rosita Dasheno (Marcus Bailon), Tricia Dasheno (Eric Lucero), Alexandria Dasheno (Marvin Martinez), Reyes Tsosie, Adelena Tsosie, Ivanna Tsosie; great-grandchildren Emma Tsosie, Sheldon Gaussoin (Mackenzie), Nanibaa Gaussoin, Tyler Gaussoin, Kehasbah Gaussoin, Isaiah Dasheno, Elizabeth Dasheno, Gabriel Dasheno, Rebecca Vigil, Thamu Vigil, Leanna Lucero, Hanna Martinez, Autumn Martinez, Nathaniel Martinez, and great-great-grandchildren Lane Gaussoin, and Atlas Gray Gaussoin; sister Marian Simbolo, sister-in law Mabel Duran, special niece Charlotte Yazza-Bain and her husband Gary and son Allen, and many more relatives, friend on Navajo Nation & Picuris Pueblo & Santa Fe.
Lydia was a devout catholic always going to mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church every Sunday and during the week. She enjoyed helping in the church for Mass. She grew up very poor, and mothered seven children. Sending them to catholic schools, Loretto Academy, St. Anne’s Grade School, St. Michael’s High School, and Santa Fe High School. She was a very loving wife to her husband Carl for 63 years, and loved her children, grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great grandkids dearly. She also enjoyed teaching her children the Tiwa language. She enjoyed embroidery and worked at the dormitories at the Old Institute of American Indian Arts School. She was the Matriarch to the students at the IAIA Indian School. She was a very good homemaker and cook.
Due to the current spike in Covid cases the family has chosen to reduce service to a Burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday January 21, 2022. If coming, please line up in the right lane by the gates and we will taken in procession to the shelter at 11:15am.
