Lucille Bonner

October 21, 1931 ~ June 9, 2022 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Lucille Bonner, our loving and devoted great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. Lucille Bonner, 90, a 67-year resident of Los Alamos, died peacefully in her sleep at home and was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord on June 9, 2022.

Lucille was born on October 21, 1931, in Houston, TX, the daughter of Ben and Lucille Chambers.  She was raised in Texas and moved with her parents to Santa Fe, NM, in 1950, while continuing to attend Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX.  It was in Santa Fe that she met Austin Bonner, the love of her life, to whom she was married for 52 years. He was welcomed into Heaven in 2007.

Lucille is survived by her son John and his wife Lori, of Tijeras, NM and her son Charles and wife Deirdre of White Rock; and her grandchildren, Elisa Bonner (husband Stephen McNulty), Ashley Bonner (husband Rick Romero), Ben Bonner (wife Barb), and Carin Chavez (husband Michael); and great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Miley Chavez and Brayden and Brooklyn Bonner.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Chambers of Houston, TX and Judy Bonner of Borger, TX.

After giving her life to Jesus Christ in 1939 and growing up in the Baptist Church, she served as Sunday School teacher most of her adult life.  She was a charter member of White Rock Baptist Church in 1968, later serving in missions in Ojo Caliente, Santa Fe, Espanola, Grants and in Prison Fellowship ministries, as well as, Los Alamos County Jail ministries.

She always had a deep love for God’s beautiful creation, especially night-time skies, and acquired a love for gardening, camping, and hunting in New Mexico’s mountains. She was employed by Los Alamos National Laboratory for 15 years, she retired in 1993.

She was known to her grandchildren as “Granlu” which after a little while became “Glu” or “G-lu" to some.  She was passionate about ensuring she shared her love for Jesus Christ with not only her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also in the Los Alamos Community to the younger generation through Good News Club where she taught ages K-6th grade about the Lord. At the same time, she was teaching Sunday School at First Indian Baptist Church in Espanola.  Up until her passing, she continued to share the Gospel through these ministries and never faltered in her faith.

She would wake up every morning and make a joyful noise unto the Lord. We know Heaven’s light is burning a little brighter because she is home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 18, 2022, at White Rock Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Marshall Cook.  A reception will be held after the service.

The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to the Berardinelli Family Funeral Service in Santa Fe, NM.   Memories and condolences may be shared at www.berardinellifuneralhome.com.
