Lawrence Richard Ortiz
August 18, 1959 - July 16, 2021

Lawrence Richard Ortiz of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on July 16, 2021. He was 61 years old.
     A native of Santa Fe, Lawrence graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1977. After studying at DeVry University in Phoenix, Arizona, he began a career in technology, working first in California and Nevada before returning to live and work in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.  He worked at Sandia National Labs and Intel before changing careers and becoming an architect.
     While working full-time, Lawrence obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture followed by a Master of Architecture from University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning. Lawrence had a twenty-seven-year career in architecture and was an AIA registered architect and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certified. He worked for a number of New Mexico firms, most recently as an architect and project manager at Conron & Woods Architects in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
     A dedicated father and loving son, brother, and uncle, Lawrence loved skiing the slopes of Taos and Santa Fe, restoring old cars, and photography.  Lawrence was passionate about green building and sustainable design and development and sought to pursue those values in his work and life.
     Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Dicky) and Rosina Ortiz, brother Martin Ortiz, grandparents, Preciliano and Valentina Ortiz, and Esequiel and Rita Gallegos.
     Lawrence is survived by his daughter Kiera Ortiz, Kiera’s mother Jill Christian, sister Lisa Gutierrez, brother Marc Ortiz, sister-in-law Carol Ortiz, nephew Jerome Gutierrez (Beth), niece Rita Ortiz (Sean), as well as three great nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
     A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 9:00 am at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505, (www.berardinellifuneralhome.com). Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
