Tribute

Lars Howard Wecksung of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on February 22, 2024 at the young age of 53, surrounded by his family, after a lifelong battle with kidney disease.

Lars was born on July 20, 1970, the youngest of three children to George W. Wecksung and Mona Meyers Wecksung in Los Alamos, New Mexico. After Lars graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1988, he went on to study Business at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.  In 1991 he moved to Phoenix to attend auto-mechanic school, where he eventually settled and called Phoenix home.

Lars had several careers during his life. His talents, creativity and life experiences allowed him to pursue his many interests. His love of classic cars inspired him to become an auto-mechanic where we worked for Nissan in Scottsdale. His interpersonal skills made him an exceptional salesperson, where he spent 10 years selling Spas and helping his friend build a successful business.   Per his health challenges and experiences with the medical community, he received his certificate as a radiologist technician but was unable to work in this field due to his kidney disease.

Lars loved life and lived it to the fullest.  He had a natural connection with people and had many lifelong friends that he loved spending time with. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking in the mountains around Phoenix and Sedona.  He rode motorcycles and spent many weekends at the lake riding his jet ski. He played the guitar and piano and he loved cooking and eating southwestern cuisine.

Lars was preceded in death by his father, George W. Wecksung. He is survived by his mother, Mona Wecksung of Los Alamos, his sister Jennifer McKennan and her husband Dustin R. McKennan of Billings, Montana, his brother George (Skip) Wecksung of Los Alamos, his nephew Dustin K. McKennan of Conroe Texas, niece Morganne McKennan of Montgomery, Texas, and grand-nephew Dustin Noah McKennan.

Lars’ departure comes with great sadness, and it is gravely felt by his family and countless friends who loved and prayed for him during his final days. The family appreciates your support during this time of sorrow and requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to UNM Children’s Hospital in Albuquerque.
