Joe Guadalupe Garcia

Joe G Garcia was born August 16, 1938, to Joe G Garcia and Carmelita Baca in Santa Fe. Joe died on May 24, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Carmen Ulibarri and Joe Garcia, stepfather Jacob Ulibarri, brothers Bernard and Louis Garcia and his beloved wife of 48 years Loyola E. Carrillo.
He attended Santa Fe High School and graduated in 1957. He was employed by WMF Carl's Pontiac Company part-time. Joe met Loyola, his high school sweetheart, and they were married June 8, 1957. Joe later went to work for the Santa Fe Motor Company in 1958. In 1964, Joe joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles and is still a member today. He began working for the New Mexico State Highway Dept. in 1967 as an auto mechanic and retired in 1996.
Among his many hobbies, Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, making jewelry, and working on vehicles. His 1946 Chevy Pickup, which he restored, was his pride and joy. Joe is survived by his children, Deborah J. Garcia, Carmen E. Hartzog (Bill), and Joseph G. Garcia (Amber); also, grandchildren, Samantha, Krista, Jeffrey, Haylie, and a great-grandson, Jaxon; siblings, Laura Lopez, Patricia Robison, and Gilbert Ulibarri.
Joe enjoyed spending days with Haylie, as she grew up, sharing meals, lessons, hobbies, rides to and from school, gardening, and of course, her bunny, Cupcake. He very much enjoyed outdoor barbecues with family and was quite happy, tinkering in his shop.
The Garcia family would like to thank Dr. Joshua Brown, Dr. Poseidon Varvitsiotis, Father Frank Prieto, friends and family members who cared for and visited with dad.
Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. A mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosario Cemetery.
