Janet Owens Slusher

Janet Owens Slusher, 68, of Santa Fe, NM died Friday March 16, 2018.

Janet Marie Owens was born to the late John Barney Owens, and Dorothy Jerkins Owens, March

12, 1950 in St. Mary’s County, MD. Jan graduated from Fairfax County Schools, VA, and

earned a BS in Physical Education from Radford University, Radford, VA. She married David

Allen Slusher in Vienna, VA in 1975 and began her teaching career in Lakeland, FL, before

moving to Fredericksburg, VA.

Jan was an Elementary PE Teacher in Stafford County Schools, VA until her retirement in

2002. She was passionate about teaching children to care for their health by exercising and

eating well. Jan was well admired and respected by her students.

Jan loved to travel with her husband to the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Central and South

America as well as cruise ship tours. She toured Europe while a college student.

Jan is survived by her husband of 43 years; her sister-in-law, Linda Hamilton Owens, Nashville,

TN, wife of her brother, the late John Barney Owens, Jr.; and nephews: Douglas Hamilton

Owens, Washington, DC and Jeffrey Brian Owens, New York, NY.
