Gregory Xavier Hunt, age 74, died on Wednesday with his family caring for him at home. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Elizabeth (nee Lawrence) and Francis Hunt . He was the third of five children. He moved to Santa Fe in 1965 to pursue a degree at Saint Michael’s College. While residing in Santa Fe, he met his future wife, Josephine Quintana. He fell in love with her in the spring of 1968 after going on a blind date, they married in 1972. They built a life together while he maintained a career working for the State of New Mexico. An avid traveler and lover of Santa Fe, he frequented the Santa Fe Opera every season and often referred to New Mexico jokingly as 'the land of entrapment'.
Following his retirement he served in various charitable activities including on the Board of the New Mexico School for the Arts, bookkeeping at the Elks Club, and volunteering with Kitchen Angels. Gregory is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, and his older brother. He is survived by his remaining siblings Eileen, Mary, and Joe, and his three children Frank, Matthew, and Joanna. Church services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 9 at Cristo Rey.
