Gloria Gregorita Baca

Gloria G. Baca, a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great grandmother, went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 7, 2018.  She was devoted to the Catholic faith and loved our Lord Jesus Christ and our beloved Holy Mother the Church.

She was preceded in death by her late husband of 47 years, Max J. Baca; mother, Bernardita Lucero, née Martinez; and father, David Lucero.  She had one son, Max C. Baca (Juanita); 3 grandchildren, Jerry (Angelicque), Max P. (MJ), Marietta (AJ); and 7 great grandchildren, Keanu, Santanna, Bianca, Tianna, Marianna, Aiyana, and Kai.

Gloria was born in La Jolla, NM, on July 13th, 1926, to David Lucero and Bernardita Martinez Lucero.  She was the eldest of 11 siblings, Donna Montoya (Pat), Corrine Garcia, Tony Lucero (Vicky), Ray Lucero, Vincent Lucero, Mary Lou Martinez, David Lucero (Patsy), Fred Lucero (Josie), Lupe Lujan (Alfred), Helen Valdez (Eloy), Angie Lynch (Willie).  She also has many other beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

As the eldest of the family, Gloria took on many additional responsibilities to ensure the well-being of the family.  These included gathering and cutting wood, hauling well water for drinking, as well as cleaning, and washing clothes on behalf of her siblings.  Gloria enjoyed family activities, including travelling, going out to eat, walking in the outdoors, and spending time at the family cabin in Pecos.  She devoted many hours teaching religion to children at St. Anne’s school, worked at La Fonda, Kitchen Fresh Bakery, and also worked as a custodian for the State of New Mexico.  Gloria had a lot of amazing stories to share from her childhood and younger years, growing up on a ranch and living through the Great Depression.  She contributed so much to creating family unity and will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Pall bearers will be Eddie Baca, Keanu Baca, Max P. Baca, Jerry Baca, Ron Lynch and Bernard Lucero.  There are too many honorary ball bearers to mention.

A Viewing will be held for Gloria at St. Anne’s Church on Tuesday, June 12th, at 5:00 PM, and the Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM.

Mass of a Christian burial will be held on June 13th at 12:00 PM at St. Anne’s Church, Interment will be at 1:30 PM at Santa Fe National Cemetery and a reception will follow at the St. Anne’s parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, Gloria requested that individuals contribute funds to their favorite charity.
