A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Fidel Alexander Gonzales passed away on May 15, 2022, with his loving wife by his side. He was 85.
Born in Glorieta, NM, on April 24, 1937, to Pablita Garcia and Onesimo Gonzales, Fidel later attended St. Michael’s High School followed by a stint in the U.S. Army and an honorable discharge.
He was married to the love of his life, Jennie A. Gonzales, on November 26, 1959, by Father Cassidy at St. Anne’s. They remained together until he passed.
A kid at heart, Fidel always had a smile on his face, and his lighthearted spirit was contagious.
A dedicated and hard-working man, he was employed for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years.
Athletically inclined his entire life, he played basketball, softball, bowled and even competed in the Senior Olympics. He also loved watching sports and always had a game on.
After a long day of work he always made time to play catch, go to the park for hitting practice or play basketball in the driveway with his son and friends. He’d frequently find a way to make his wife smile, whether it was a flirtatious eyebrow raise or a playful wink.
Above all Fidel loved his family, always prioritizing Jennie and Carlos.
He was preceded in death by his father Onesimo Gonzales; his mother Pablita Gonzales and his sister Rosalie Montoya.
Fidel is survived by his wife, Jennie Gonzales; his son Carlos Gonzales; his brother Rudy Gonzales; his daughter-in-law Rachel Gonzales; his granddaughter Maia Gonzales and his grandson Aidan Gonzales.
Fidel’s playful nature and loving heart will be missed but honored by finding the good in others and enjoying the simple things in life like camping, fishing and spending time with loved ones.
Services will be held at Santa Maria de la Paz on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. The rosary will be at 10 a.m. followed by services at 10:30. He will be buried in the National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A funeral reception will follow at the home of Carlos and Rachel Gonzales.
