Felicia Maria Gallegos

August 2, 1988 ~ April 18, 2024 (age 35) 35 Years Old

Tribute

Our beloved Felicia passed away after a nearly 20-year battle with diabetes.  Felicia was born and raised in Santa Fe and graduated from Santa Fe High School and was a student at UNM and SFCC.  She is preceded in death by her best friend and brother, Miguel Gallegos, grandparents Victor and Margaret Gallegos, grandparents Benny and Lena Bustos, uncles Roy, Lorenzo, and Ernest Gallegos, auntie Yolanda Chavez, cousin Nicholas Gallegos, and cousin Adam Armijo.  She is survived by her parents Rudy and Theresa Gallegos, brother Roberto, her honorary 2nd mother Olivia Bustos Hayes, her dog Beau, and many family and friends that adored her.  Honorary Paul Bearers are George Gallegos Jr, Margaret Nina Gallegos, Fernando Fern Ortega, Leroy Juno Sanchez, Cheryl Padilla, Anthony Padilla, Brian Bustos, Guillermo Bustos, Mark Ortiz, Leroy Ortiz, Irene Ortiz, Laurence Hayes, Vanessa Dalton, Julian Armijo, Jaime Martinez, Liz Legits, Andrea Lopez, Briana Salazar, and Ariana Manzanares.

Felicia spent most her childhood smiling, laughing, and having fun with her brothers and cousins.  They played basketball at the park, rode bikes in the yard, and went camping every summer.  She played volleyball and basketball throughout middle school and high school.  After high school she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  Life became a lot more difficult for the free spirit who now had to live with a life changing illness.  Despite her struggles and many hospitalizations, she persevered, and showed courage and grace in the face of hardship.  Many people turn bitter and angry because of their difficult situations, but she showed kindness, compassion, and generosity to everyone despite her pain.  If you were lucky enough to be in Felicia’s life, your house is currently filled with teddy bears, flowers, and clothing that she gifted you and your phone has many sweet texts and voicemails from her as well.

We will miss Felicia’s beautiful smile, sweet voice, and kind nature.  We cannot fill the void that her passing has left but we smile at the thought of her in heaven with her loving family and big brother.  Her pain and suffering are gone forever and she has found the peace and happiness that she always searched for.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and EMT’s who cared for and treated her over the years.  You gave us more days, weeks, months, and years with our beautiful Felicia.  We are forever grateful to everybody who showed her love and kindness.
