ELIZA SOKOLOWSKI

On January 5, 2021 Eliza Sokolowski, our Mom, passed away where she joined the Lord in Heaven. Eliza is survived by her two daughters, Jessica Delgado and Sonya Jackson and husband Michael; granddaughters, Elizah, Ellery, and Mariah; and sister, Camilla Martinez and Ron. She was preceded in death by parents, Eloy and Frances Martinez; her siblings, Monica Augustine and Eloy F. Martinez; and her nephew, Jacob Brito.
Eliza was born on March 9, 1947. She grew up in Santa Fe, NM for the majority of her life with the exception of a few years spent in Albuquerque, NM. She graduated from Santa Fe High School and attended college at the College of Santa Fe and then Eastern New Mexico University. Mom worked as a fulltime Elementary School Librarian for the Santa Fe Public School District from the late 1980's until 2009 when she retired. She worked at Acequia Madre, Larragoite, and Sweeny Elementary. It was a career she loved and cherished dearly. She was also a lecturer at the St. Frances Cathedral Basilica for 20 years. During this time, she raised both of her daughters as well as provided fulltime care for both of her parents.
Our Mom was everything to us growing up and all throughout our adult life. She was our world and we can't imagine how this life with continue without her. Mom taught us how to drive, how to cook, how to have fun, and how to be creative. She taught us all the important things in life without buying us almost anything. Our life with her was experiencing things, hanging out, laughing, playing games, doing art projects, and going on small family trips. Mom loved the spring for planting and watching all of the new flowers bloom. She loved the summer because she knew it meant BBQ's and games nights with the family. Mom loved the fall because that is season we most often drove to the mountains and took trips to feel the cold. Winters were probably her favorite because of the holidays and the snow. Even though we lived with her, we called her all day. Where we were, she was with us.
In 2011, Mom got to experience having her very first granddaughter, Elizah Delgado. For nine years, she helped raise Elizah and taught her everything! We even held a graduation prior to Elizah going into kindergarten for graduating, "The Academy of Nana." She did everything with her granddaughter from reading, cooking, doing art, and helping teach her about God and the world, oh yes and let's not forget she taught her all about Harry Potter. In 2016, Mom was blessed with two more granddaughters, Ellery and Mariah. These next two bundles of joy kept Nana on her toes. She had a blast with her granddaughters. She was with them every single day and loved to play games, read to them, dance with them, and introduced them to just about every Disney movie including all of the Star Wars movies.
Our Mom was absolutely the most amazing, loving, sincere, soft spoken, creative, insightful, smart, funny, up for anything, book worm, loved life, religious, gorgeous, forgiving, magnificent woman this world has ever known. Her laugh was infectious, her dance moves were hilarious, and the love she had within her heart was so abundant, it was incredible. Her advice was always right and our conversations were endless. How we are just supposed to graciously accept her passing and continue life without her remains a mystery. We will take it minute by minute and we ask the good Lord to lead us by his hand and create a path for us that we are unable to visualize at this time. We so desperately want to hug her and kiss her right now…Lord hear our prayers.
Due to ongoing restrictions, services will be held privately in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, January 15, 2021. A Rosary will be held at Berardinelli with a mass to follow at the St. Frances Cathedral Basilica. She will then be laid to rest at Rosario Cemetery.
