Dr. Dennis Downey

Dr. Dennis Downey died peacefully in his home Tuesday, October 26, 2021 with his loving wife and best friend by his side. Dennis was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 24, 1941 to Dr. James W. Downey and Thelma Richey.

He attended college at Kansas University and dental school at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Dennis served as a Captain in the Air Force and ultimately made his home in Santa Fe, NM where he met and married his wife and the love of his life, Julie Sanchez. Dennis and Julie dedicated their lives to their family, raising 8 children and loving their 12 grandchildren. They worked side-by-side to manage their dental practice and art gallery until they retired and started their new adventure with their Asea business while traveling the world.

Dennis is preceded in death by his son, David Downey and was a beloved father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his sons, Anthony, Randy, Robert and Keith; daughters, Erin (Steven), Veronica (Jeremiah) and Sara; grandchildren, Anjelica, Alexis, Brian, Jacob, Alex, Luna, Aydin, Natacia, Ezekiel, Stephen, Jade-Lynn, Amber-Lynn; brother Mike Downey and sisters Karen Downey and Judi Ewert.

Dennis had an extraordinary heart and never quit giving of himself.  He lived a life dedicated to serving others, working for several decades as a beloved dentist in Santa Fe, he also pursued his love of art through paintings and was known across the globe for his cloudscapes and beautiful paintings. He was an avid fisherman and loved the game of golf; he traveled extensively gaining friends and colleagues in countries across the globe and here in the US. He adored his Yorkies, Bingley and Dutchess. 

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Saturday November 6, 2021 at 10 am followed by Mass at 11am at St. Anne's Catholic Parish, 511 Alicia St., Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Burial will take place on Thursday December 2, 2021 at 1:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
