Donna Claire Ford, 90, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Stanley Lyttleton Ford, in 1990.
Donna was born to the late Irvin Camden Thomas (I.C.) and Josephine D. Bull, on February 28, 1927, in Portland, Oregon.
Donna’s parents brought the family from Portland, Oregon to the Los Angeles area during the Great Depression. She grew up in Burbank and had many stories of her childhood while living near the movie studios.
Donna graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1949, with a BA in elementary education and belonged to the Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority. After graduation, Donna moved to Bakersfield, CA to teach, and married family friend, the late Robert W. Ford, in 1951, where they settled and raised two children.
Donna’s many careers took her from elementary school teaching, to children’s librarian, and then to her own small business in art photography.
Donna was an artist at heart. She loved drawing in pencil, watercolors, photography, and decorating her many homes, as she moved between Oregon and New Mexico.
She was also an avid gardener, planning and executing many flower gardens along with excelling at her vegetable gardens. Her love of birds in particular occupied her time in her later years.
Donna will be remembered for her bright smile and her quick wit.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Aleta Baker, and son-in-law, Terry Baker, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; as well as her sister, Ailene Watson and family in Manhattan Beach, California.
