Donald P. Martinez

September 20, 1939 ~ May 1, 2022 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Donald P. Martinez, Sr. was born in Santa Fe, NM, and he loved every natural feature of northern New Mexico. He attended 12 years at St. Michael’s Christian Brothers School, and then went on to university and graduate school at St. Louis University, where he studied dentistry. Donald met the love of his life in St. Louis in 1962, and married Geri in 1965. Donald subsequently served his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 in the U.S. Army Dental Corps and the U.S. Army First Infantry Division, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and the Vietnamese Medal of Honor.

Once Donald returned from his military service, he made his life and dental practice in Santa Fe, raising his two children Patrick and Leah alongside his wife.  He was a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry, and he served his profession in many professional organizations and boards of dentistry.

Donald final days were spent in the place he loved most, at home with the people he cherished, his family. Memorial donations may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery, 49 Mt. Carmel Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87505.

A rosary at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Catholic funeral Mass at 11:15 a.m. will be celebrated for Donald on Monday, May 9, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe, NM. 

Donald will be laid to rest on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors for his service to this country.
