Delores H Tapia

November 7, 1928 ~ December 14, 2020 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Delores H.Tapia, 92, joyfully joined our dear Lord on December 14, 2020.

Delores was born in Waynoka, OK to Lloyd and Ella Mae Hendrie on November 7, 1928.

Delores was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph L. Tapia, beloved daughter, Christina Martinez, son, John J. Tapia, her parents, Lloyd and Ella Mae Hendrie, sisters Nancy Maure and Patricia Baker.  She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Ortiz (Tom), Anna Maestas (Charles), Tricia Tapia and Susan Sotelo (Mike), as well as 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

After moving to New Mexico during her senior year of high school, Delores attended Belen High School where she was a majorette and graduated at the end of that school year.  Delores went on to attend business college where she was a member of the Delta Iota chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.  During her time in school, she was blessed to meet her loving, devoted, helpful husband and friend, Joe.  Delores worked for the State of New Mexico and Santa Fe Public Schools, retiring after 32 years of service.  She enjoyed being a volunteer at the Northern New Mexico School Employees Federal Credit Union, where she served on the board, for 26 years.  Delores was also a member of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Delores enjoyed attending many golf tournaments around New Mexico with Joe.  Delores had many cherished friends, some of whom she loved playing golf with, both in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.  They were known as the “9-Holers”.  Delores had fun winning many of the door prizes; just one example of how she was lucky in love and in life.  She always looked forward to her trips with Joe to their time share in San Diego. Many family and friends also created fun memories with them there in the sunshine, on the golf course, by the pool and at local vineyards.

A special thank you to our home health-care helpers, Edwiges (Vicky) Gutierrez, Marisela Gutierrez, Norberta Arevalo-Cano and Yvonne Ortiz.

Delores was a very humble, kind and giving person.  She cherished her family and friends and always enjoyed having a house filled with those she loved.

Mom, thanks for all of the fond memories and all the good times we’ve shared together throughout our lifetime.  Happy 70th Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Due to current circumstances, services are pending and a celebration of life will be held in the future.  Pallbearers are Ryan Walker, Jeff Walker, Jarom Walker, David Ortiz, Michael Reyes and Dominic Martinez.  Honorary Pallbearers are Carlos Ortiz, Jonathon Sotelo and Jason Martinez.
