David Urioste passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2017. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on December 23, 1931. David is survived by his wife Mary, & son Donald of Santa Fe, & son Glenn and his wife Lisa and their son Keaton of Katy, TX.
David was a 1950 graduate of Las Vegas High School before serving three years in the Army during the Korean War.
During his 27 years at MVD David held several positions. Among them were Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner, Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of Transportation, and Chief of Field Operations. He retired in 1984 as Director. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. David was instrumental in the development and recodification of the Motor Vehicle Code enacted into law in 1978. He also co-authored the Comprehensive Manual on Registration and Titling Procedures.
A Rosary will be held at Berardinelli Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will take place at St John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11:00am. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on the 27th at 1:30pm. A Reception will follow the interment at the Berardinelli McGee Event Center (1320 Luisa St, 87505).
