Cesaria "Susie" Vela

Susie Vela, passed away at her home in Santa Fe on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the age of 85 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sisters.

Susie was born in Santa Fe, NM. She and her beloved husband Joe Vela married in 1958 and started their lives in Grants, NM where they raised their three children. They moved back to their hometown of Santa Fe where they were a large part of their grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Joe Vela, her parents, Juan and Romie Martinez, her sisters Agnes and Patsy and her brother David.

She is survived by her children, Diana Vela (Richard), Jolene Flores and Joe Vela Jr.

Her grandchildren, Christy Martinez, Joel Flores, Daniel Vela and Joseph Vela. Her great grandsons, James Estevan Valdez, Joseph Vela, Kane Flores & Santos Valdez.

Her brothers Johnny Martinez, Jimmy (Maryann) Martinez, and her sisters, Sheila Martinez, Alice Trujillo, Cindy Martinez and partner Rick Anaya.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her extended Vela and Roybal families.

A visitation will be held at Berardinelli Family Chapel on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 at 6:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St Anne Catholic Church on Thursday May 4th, 10:00 am, followed by 11:30 interment at Rosario Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons: Joel, Daniel,  James Estevan, Joseph, Kane and Santos. Honorary pallbearers: Richard Ulibarri and Christy Martinez.
