Celedonio Filimon (CF) Lucero passed away on April 23, 2022 at his home with members of his devoted and loving family by his side. CF is survived by his adoring wife of 69 years, Teresina, his daughters Marcia (Tino), Anna (Harry), Eva, and his sons, Randy (LaVerne), Stephen (Robin), Carl (Derna) and numerous grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Philip and his great grandson, Owen.
CF was born on September 6, 1929 in Peña Blanca, New Mexico. He graduated from St. Michael's High School, received his B.A. from the College of Santa Fe and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. CF was a man of great faith, committed to adhering to the Catholic tradition of love, compassion and forgiveness.
As a trained social worker, he committed his life’s work to helping others. CF was the executive director of Catholic Charities in Santa Fe for 28 years where he oversaw counseling and adoption services, providing guidance, assistance and hope for numerous families throughout Northern New Mexico. Upon retirement, CF and Teresina traveled throughout Mexico, coupling their love of travel with a job for the American Automobile Association (AAA) to document points of interest (local attractions, gas stations, campgrounds, restaurants, and hotels) for AAA’s popular road trip planner, TripTik. CF and his family were longtime members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church where he proudly served as a reader and Eucharistic Minister. For many years, CF and Teresina participated in the Sociedad Colonial Española de Santa Fe, a New Mexican folkloric dance troupe. An avid sports fan, CF was a life long supporter of the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Dodgers; however, he reserved his deepest devotion to the St. Michael’s Horseman and even as recently as last fall was still attending the home games.
A Rosary will be recited on April 29th at Berardinelli Funeral Home at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe on April 30th at 10:00AM. A military burial will be held on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at 3pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
