Bernice V. Victor, 97, a long time resident of Santa Fe, peacefully passed into heaven on
Thursday, October 26, 2017, in her home with family by her side.The eldest of 6 children, she
graduated from nursing school in Chicago, IL, as a registered nurse. She worked in several care
facilities there and married the love of her life, John Victor (Jack), eventually moving with the
family to Santa Fe in 1963. In Santa Fe she continued to work as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital
and other care facilities, raising their six children and becoming involved with the community.
For many years she led a bible study in her home and also hosted the neighborhood watch
meetings. She volunteered with the Salvation Army and Shalom Prison Ministries and was a
dedicated member of several churches throughout her long life, including Capital Christian,
Light at Mission Viejo, and Sonlit Hills Christian Fellowship. Many knew her as a compassionate
prayer warrior and friend. A special memory for her family will always be the Christmas
celebrations she proudly hosted throughout her life in her Santa Fe home. She will be deeply
missed by her 6 children, John (Lynda), David, Alan, Jim (Holly), Susan Maldonado Romero
(Tom), and Sharon Petney (Andy), as well as her 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers Ed Hoessler (Thelma) of Santa Fe and Gene Hoessler
(Judy) of Chicago, who loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband and two
great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Addisyn Abruzzo. Services will be held for family and friends
at Berardinelli’s in Santa Fe (condolences may be given at www.berardinellifuneralhome.com).
