Angelica (Angie) Córdova, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017. She was born July 29, 1935 in Questa, New Mexico to Alfredo and Socorro Durán, and was one of eight daughters.

Angelica was a loving, kind, and strong woman, fiercely loyal to her family and loved ones, and deeply spiritual. She was born the year Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into the law the Social Security Act. The world she lived in was a dynamic one that saw America’s recovery from the Great Depression, its involvement in major world wars, the rise of Rock ‘n Roll (she was a fan of Elvis Presley), the Civil Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid, the Voting Rights Act, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the first African-American President of the United States. She grew up on the farm and was part of a large extended family that valued faith, humor, and hard work. Angelica graduated from Questa High School in 1954, and married Aniceto (Andy) Córdova of San Cristóbal, New Mexico, on February 4, 1961, with whom she had three children: Loretta, Lawrence, and James. She was highly talented at sewing, embroidering, and fabric arts, and sold high-quality winter coats she handmade for many years. Later she opened a successful daycare center and became a second mother to many children she cared for and loved. Angelica appreciated the world’s diversity and traveled with her family to experience different cultures, cuisine, landscapes, music, people, and art. She was a member of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society, and regularly participated at the Annual Spanish Market in Santa Fe, where she made many friends among the santeros and other artists. She was a long-time parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe before joining the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Angelica is preceded in death by parents, Alfredo and Socorro Durán, and sisters Elsie Ramos (Cirilo) and Gloria Herrera (Roger). Survivors include husband Aniceto Córdova of Santa Fe; children, Loretta Córdova-Loken (Eric) of Phoenix, Arizona; Lawrence Córdova (Donna) of Santa Fe; James Córdova of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Janira and Nicholas Córdova; sisters Lydia Esquíbel (Joe), Arabella Ortega (Norbert), Antonia De Herrera (Johnnie), Dolores García (Eddie), and Elsie Mae Lucero (Clarence).

A Rosary will take place Wednesday, October 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Funeral Home in Santa Fe. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 20, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, and burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
