Alicia Marie Hicks

On Friday, May 15, 2020, Alicia Marie Hicks of Santa Fe, loving daughter, sister and granddaughter, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness at age 33.  

Alicia was born on July 21, 1986 in Los Alamos, New Mexico to Thomas and Lori Hicks.  She graduated from Pojoaque High School, obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UNM and went on to earn an MBA from NMSU.  Alicia started her career in Student Programs at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she was currently working as a senior accountant.

Despite her young age, Alicia exhibited an unmatched resilience in the face of any obstacle and served as a pillar of strength for family and friends, reminding them that nothing is truly insurmountable.  No matter the circumstance, she had this innate ability to find humor in any situation, which would often start a chain reaction of laughter even at the most inappropriate of times—a rare trait that will be sorely missed.  Alicia was also a doting “mother” of two dogs, Pumpkin and Jax, that she loved as her own children.  As an avid car-lover, she would often venture out on long drives, with Pumpkin and Jax by her side. She also enjoyed taking off on extended road trips all around Colorado, especially around Ouray where she spent a lot of her time exploring mines, camping and being surrounded by nature and beauty.  Alicia was known for her infectious smile, her unshakable courage and her unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and she leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and perseverance.

Alicia is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Johnnie and Gloria, her maternal grandfather, Paul, and her aunt, Trisha. She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Lori, her brother, Christopher, her maternal grandmother, Ellie, her uncles, Larry (Jeanne), Bob, Michael and John, and numerous close cousins, family and friends.  Due to current circumstances, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alicia’s name to your local Humane Society, St. Jude’s or a charity of your choice.
