Maria Helena Mier Gallegos
1937 - 2017
Maria Helena Mier Gallegos, 79, a resident of Agua Fria Village, passed away on Sunday, October 8th with Jerry, her husband, and brother, Ray Mier, at her side.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Antonia Lopez Mier; father, Antonio L. Mier; brother, Gilbert Mier; brothers-in-law, Freddie Gallegos, Philip Gallegos, Elias Gallegos (Mary), and Jimmy Prada, Valentine Montano.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Gallegos; brothers, John Mier (Therese), Ray Mier, Joe Mier (Carmela), Mike Mier (Jenny); sisters-in-law, Martha Mier, Conrie Prada , Tessie Montano, Olivia Chavez; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Gallegos (Tonie Ann), Rubel Gallegos (Alice) and John Gallegos. She is also survived by her special friend, Marty Johnson and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Pallbearers Gavin Mier, Steve Mier, Ron Mier, Jeremy Mier and honorary pallbearers Bryon Martinez, Brandon Martinez, Isaiah Martinez.
Helen graduated from San Mateo High School in San Francisco in 1957. She also attended Loretto Academy before moving to California with her family.
Helen loved to cook, knit, sew, and had many other hobbies including making jewelry, and fishing. She also enjoyed the casinos, when she won she would share her winnings with her friends and family.
Helen married Jerry on February 8, 1964, spending 53 years as a very happy couple. Helen started working right after graduation at the Telephone Company as an operator in San Francisco, CA. After moving to Santa Fe she worked for Mountain Bell as an operator and later worked as an administrative assistant for the phone company.
A Rosary will be recited by the Caballeros De Vargas at 6:30pm at St Anne’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 17. Mass will be at St Anne’s on Wednesday, October 18, at 10:00am. The Burial Service will follow at Rosario Cemetery, and the Reception will be at the Elks.
Pallbearers are Steve Mier, Gavin Mier, Ron Mier and Jeremy Mier. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryon Martinez, Brandon Martinez, Isaiah Martinez.
