Lucy Pablita VarelaJanuary 26, 1932 ~ August 20, 2017 (age 85)
Lucy Varela passed away peacefully on August 18, 2017, at the age of 85. She was born and raised in Pecos, New Mexico, but lived and worked in Santa Fe since 1966. She retired from the State of New Mexico, Taxation and Revenue Department after 33 years of service to help raise her grandchildren. She was active in her church as a member of the Altar Society. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Varela, parents Juan and Mary Ortiz, brother Johnny Ortiz and wife Dolores, parents in-law Reymundo and Zenaida Varela, sister in-laws Helen Ortiz, and Consuelo Quintana and husband Ruben, and brother in-law Reymundo Varela Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Esther and husband Michael Lopez, Debra and husband Aaron Lopez, brothers Gilbert Ortiz and Andy Ortiz and wife Georgia, sisters in-law Martha Sena and Josela Varela, grandchildren David Lopez, Brenden Lopez, Darien Lopez, Brianna Lopez and Karissa Isaac and husband Jaime, as well as two great-grandchildren Hendrix and Surya Isaac, and many other nieces and nephews.
Services will celebrated with a Viewing from 4:00 - 6:30 pm and Rosary from 6:30 – 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Berardinelli Funeral Home, and a mass at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with a burial to follow in Pecos, New Mexico where she will be laid to rest with her husband and parents. Pall Bearers will be her grandsons David, Brenden and Darien Lopez.
