LILA CAMPOS VIGIL
Lila Campos Vigil passed away peacefully on October 30, 2017, at the age of 95. She will be forever remembered by her children, David, Claudia Frye, and Kathryn Lippincott (Jack). She will also be fondly remembered by her 6 grandchildren, Kelly, Jesse, Russell, Jacob, Jay, and Pete, her 2 great grandchildren, Austin and Tyler, her sister-in-law Terry Tapia, brother-in-law Paul Vigil, and her many nieces and nephews, including Cindy, John Philip, James, Callie, Thomas, and Madeline. Lila was predeceased by her husband Pete, her son Tom, her parents, Enefrio and Cruz Campos, her brothers and sister, Benny, Jimmy, Jacob, and Esther, and brothers-in-law Tim, and Clyde.
Lila was born on October 10, 1922, in Servilleta, New Mexico. She graduated from the Santa Fe Indian School, and the Southwestern Secretarial School in Albuquerque. She attended Hunter College in New York City, and joined the U.S. Navy, where she served honorably during World War II. After a long working career, unique for a woman in those days, she retired from the Bureau of Land Management as State Land Examiner.
Lila was an avid quilter and seamstress, and a devoted league bowler. She was a good and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many folks in all walks of her long life.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Berardinelli Funeral Home, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe.
A funeral service for Lila will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
