Edward P. Moreno Jr., “Abby” 59, longtime resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe. 

Santa Fe Celebration of Life will held at Divine Destiny Church, 62 A Van Nu Po., Rancho Veijo, Santa Fe, New Mexico at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

Grant County funeral services, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 340 E. Mayo, Bayard, New Mexico on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 12:30 pm.

Concluding services with full Military Honors will follow at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery at 2 pm.

 

“Abby” as he was affectionally known, was born on July 8, 1958 to Edward L. and Norberta P. Moreno in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  He attended Cobre schools and was a graduate of the Western New Mexico University Law Enforcement Academy.  “Abby” served in the US Army as well as the New Mexico National Guard.  He began his law enforcement vocation as Chief of Police for the Santa Clara Police Department and continued on to the New Mexico State Corrections as a Corrections officer at the State Penitentiary in Santa Fe.  Upon his retirement he continued as a Corrections officer with the Santa Fe County Jail. He ended his law enforcement career as a Security Officer for the Casino industry in Santa Fe.  He was a very dedicated, caring, and giving family man. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and overall outdoorsman.  He loved teaching his children and grandchildren about the outdoors. 

 

He is survived by his wife Alice, of the family home; daughters, Danielle (Alfredo), Desiree (Joseph) and son Edward “Bubba” (Carolyn) all of Santa Fe, 9 grandchildren, Damian, Crispin and Cheyanne Bustamante, Jamilla Moreno, Ana María, Edward IV, Victoria, Angelina and Manuel Moreno.  He is survived by his mother, Norberta Moreno of Hanover, and five sisters Norberta Moreno-Anderson, Teresa Moreno, Diana Moreno Mahan, Margaret Moreno Coplen, and Camille Moreno Flores.  He is survived by his in laws, Tommy, Yolanda, Aurora and Ida. Numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.  He is also survived by his best friends, George Heidke, Manuel “Chief” Lucero, Gilbert Garcia and Jeff Little.

 

He is preceded in death by his father Edward. L. Moreno, his maternal grandparents Manuel and Lorenza Peña; paternal grandparents Espiridion Moreno and Manuela Sias, step grandfather Alfonso Sias; in laws Thomas and Teresa Wedgewood and great niece Jazmyn Rose Holguin.

 

Serving as Pallbearers for Grant County will be: his son Bubba Moreno, Jeffrey Castillo, David Castillo, Fernie Holguin, Gabriel García, Andrew Wolfe, and Steven Lucero.

Santa Fe Pallbearers will be, Bubba Moreno, Alfredo Bustamante, Joseph Hernández, Gilbert García Jr., Miguel Carrillo, Chris Aragon and Anthony Baca.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Manuel Lucero, Jeff Little, Tommy Wedgewood, Sam Tapia, Ben Gomez, Gilbert Garcia, Clyde Lucero and all who loved him.
