Arthur Paul Martinez

November 10, 1962 ~ January 26, 2018 (age 55) 55 Years Old


We mourn the loss of our loved one, but celebrate the life that he lived and the indomitable force that was Arthur Martinez.

He was born to Lloyd Anthony and Irene Louise Roybal Martinez, who survive him, in Santa Fe, NM on November 10, 1962; he called himself a Valentine’s Day baby.

Arthur earned his MA in Economics - Regulatory at NM State University, and his MS in Engineering and Technology Management at LA Tech University.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Datha, daughters Michaela Dawn (Spencer Girouard), Briana Disa (Hayden Quandt), and beloved companion and shadow, Todo O. Nada Martinez.  He is also survived by his dear sister and niece, Audrey Martinez Lucero (Albert Moreno) and Kayla Lynn Lucero.

He was most happy when surrounded by loving family, and would want them all to be remembered: Aunts and uncles: Robert/Buckwheat Martinez (Deborah); Ken/Jimmy Martinez (Becky); Diana Coplen (Jerry); Donald Martinez;  Paul Roybal ; Donna Soley (David); Geraldine Chavez (Donald); Melvin Roybal ; Roxanne Diaz (Helly); Albert Sandoval; Celia Martinez. Cousins: Traci Collins (Nick); Bridget Hettinger (Glen); Melissa Rivera (Matt); Miquela Blizzard (Chris); Kevin Coplen; Adrian Griggs (Kristen); Yvette McKenna (Doug); Kelly Chavez (Erica); Jon Carlo Trujillo (Shyann); Jeff Saiz (Marisa); Damon Chavez (Valerie); other cousins.

Those relatives who preceded him in death and now wait to greet him as he joins them on his last amazing adventure: Grandparents: Felix and Alice/Elisa Martinez, Basilio Vigil/B.V. and Josephine Roybal; Uncle Felix/Sonny Martinez and Arthur Sandoval; Great grandparents: Juan and Alcaria Sandoval and Nemesino and Irene Varela; Aunt Lindy Roybal; Cousins Kristen Martinez Griggs and Nina Roybal.

Outside of his family, the moments in his life of which he was most proud:

Being a member of the 1979 Santa Fe High School State Champion football team under Coach David Church.

Serving his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific.

Serving rural America in his position as the Vice President of State Government Relations & Public Policy for CenturyLink under CEO and President Glen Post III.  Arthur began his career at CenturyLink in 2001 when he became Director of Government Relations in Colorado then transferred to Missouri; CenturyLink’s largest operating state at that time.  Following many outstanding successes in government relations work, Arthur was recognized for his leadership ability and transferred from Jefferson City to CenturyLink’s corporate headquarters in Monroe, Louisiana, where he was serving as Vice-President.  Arthur’s professional career has been highlighted by his unwavering reputation for integrity, thoughtfulness, honesty and professionalism. He is well known in the telecommunications industry as a knowledgeable and trusted leader who could work well and achieve success with both policy makers and industry peers. He will be greatly missed by his co-workers as a friend and leader.

Arthur unexpectedly passed from this world on January 26, 2018, in Dallas Texas to forever roam the wild places left around the world. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Conservation Society to save wildlife and wild places across the globe. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Arthur at the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10:00 am.  Committal will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors at 1:30pm.
